Chinatown

It was too nice of a night to just ride home and do work, so I took the detour through Chinatown. The guy in the second image was trying to sell me stones, yes stones from the beach. Under the Manhattan bridge is a bustling area of vegetable sales, shoe repair stands and everything else, most vendors have long lines and a world of aromas - but this woman spent as much time organizing the display of ginger as she did selling her goods. She really was wonderful.

I then made the bad decision to jump on the IKEA boat and bypass the bridge. Oh what a mistake. First of all... who told all these people about the free ferry - packed on a Monday night! Then the Hasidic woman with 5 kids under 8... perhaps the sugary sodas and bags of chips were not the best idea. OH MY OH MY... "mom mom mom mom mom" crying, screaming. Everyone on the boat had their ears plugged, the nanny just sat there quietly watching as Mom tried not to yell too. It was awful. I asked if she ever has a quiet time in the house, she responded, "...when they are asleep". oh man. no thank you.

Finally, hate myself Saturday, is over! I don't know why I do these things to myself. You know, you wake up and have an idea to do something productive.... like strip the paint off of a windowsill. No big deal. But it's never just that. 10 minutes into the fun I decide that it won't be that much more work to do the whole window frame! Why not... it's only a 5' x 4' window, how hard can it be! HAHHAHAH kill me. 12 hours and a 1/2 gallon of Ready Strip later the window looks good, but I'm exhausted and cannot wait to hit the pillow. Never underestimate the power of 68 years of paint.

I've always noticed all the memorials that pop-up around the city, only recently have I photographed them. I'm surprised at how long some of them have been tended to.
---
Jesse Tompkins - 08/05/2008, who was just jogging peacefully down the street when he was hit by a car on Myrtle Ave.

08/04/2008 - I've heard rumors about what happened at this corner last week, but I do not know more then his family misses him. There were a lot of tears and music, when they were done they took the memorial with them.

Markita Weaver - 03/09/2005 she was hit by a sanitation truck while playing in a snow bank...

10/04/2006 - Red Hook

This was also in Red Hook, not sure if it was a memorial or just recycling...

R.I.P. Grady
I can't believe it, my Grady is gone. He was a great cat. Always pushing my limits, and his too.

The wall that he loved, was the wall that took him...
